In 1906, Sing Hau Lee established Quong Hop, the first tofu shop in America. He brought with him his family’s tofu making secrets that had been a tradition for generations. The family’s philosophy was clearly stated in their name. "Quong Hop" means "Great Unity", and that means only the highest integrity and quality methods would be applied to the family business.
Tofu was made fresh daily and sold from the small grocery store-front to the Asian Community who came to the San Francisco Bay Area to help build the railroads, public transportation, and the cobblestone streets of the growing San Francisco. The family’s business prospered and the Quong Hop reputation for quality, fairness, and honest spread rapidly throughout the bustling city streets.
Today Quong Hop continues the tradition.
